Tomorrow, When the War Began and Other Books Series

There are seven books whose audience are mostly young adults. Known as the Tomorrow series, the book series is written by Australian, John Marsden.  The books give details of the invasion and occupation of Australia by another country.  Ellie Linton is the principal character of the book and the story is based on her first person account of the war.  Ellie and her friends were in a camping trip when their town was invaded and the towns people held captive. The young group then decided to fight instead of hide from the invaders. The book series is their adventure and accomplishment as a young guerilla band fighting for their home town and country.  The name of the series comes from the first book titled, Tomorrow, When the War Began.

Publication Dates

Originally published from the period 1993 to 1999 by Pam Macmillan and have been reprinted sixteen times.  There is a sequel to the books entitled, The Ellie Chronicles and was published from the year 2003-2006.  The sequel involves the attempts of Ellie and the towns people to get back to their normal lives after the emotional damage that the invasion has caused.

The First Tomorrow Series Book

The first book, Tomorrow, When the War Began and the subsequent books are one of the most  popular series of novels  for young readers in Australia.  Millions of copies have been sold in that country as well.  The series have been translated into other languages including Swedish.  Due to its popularity, the first book was made into a movie with the same title.
